Pet of the Month

Who rescued whom?
A loose foxhound on Weaver Street was picked up and deposited at the shelter. After almost losing him to the "blue juice", we fostered him and almost adopted him to 3 other families. The fourth time the adoption was ours. Little did I know the goofy, happy-go-lucky, free-spirited, athletic adopted dog was a diamond-in-the-ruff. He's taught me that patience is truly a virtue after years of training. Running on a planned or unplanned agility course can be exhilarating. Dog people make great friends. He's reminded me not to forget to scent the wind a.k.a. a whiff of a burger on the grill in spring is a wonderful thing. He shows me that it's fun to stop and smell and taste the morning dew on new grass shoots. His looks of love and adoration warm us like the sun on a crisp fall morning. He always thinks things seem better after hearing a good giggle. And, you do only get out what you put into a relationship. All these things I learned from him while training and competing in dog agility. "Weaver" has since become the AKC's #1 American Foxhound and well on his way to earning more Masters and Excellent agility titles. But, it hasn't gone to his head. I was rescued the day he pawed at me through the gate door at the shelter and he said, "Look at me!" Thankfully, I just had to stop and listen…
